By now, I am sure most of you are familiar with our dog rescue, Rescue Truths. Please read this because I am reaching out for much needed help.
It is a dog rescue targeted at street dogs, but we do also take in special circumstance dogs, such as dogs from puppy mills if we find their current living condition to be a risk to their health.
We are funded primarily out of pocket, mainly my own and my husbands, and have been for 10 years. That has limited how much work we can do and how many dogs we can save, so we have decided to expand and opened a donation page allowing others to donate to the cause and help save these dogs.
Our donation page hasn’t really gone so well, and I honestly didn’t really expect it to. I figured “Hey, anything helps.” and I didn’t really worry about it. Until two weeks ago.
If you aren’t familiar with our puppy mill rescue Ama, you can read all about her story on the rescues truths page, but the short version is, Ama has a sad history and now even her future isn’t looking the brightest. She just turned 1 year old this month and is losing her eye sight due to cataracts in both of her eyes. This is most likely due to genetics and the severe inbreeding that occurs in puppy mills. Whatever the cause, she does not deserve to spend her whole life blind.
Ama has been seeing a specialist in Los Angeles and he thinks that he has a strong chance of saving Ama’s eye sight, or at least as much of it as possible, but the surgery and additional associated medical costs for Ama are going to total about $8000.
The rescue already costs us anywhere between a few hundred to several thousands of dollars a month as is, and the truth is we just don’t have the money to cover the cost of Ama’s surgery. We are doing everything we can to raise the money and my husband and I have even applied for a loan against our house to cover the cost. We are still waiting to hear back on the loan, but Ama is scheduled to return to the specialist in Los Angeles tomorrow for her pre-surgery tests. We really need as much help as possible raising the funds needed for Ama. If you can donate or even just share this page on your facebook or twitter, it would be really appreciated. I really hate to make a post like this asking so bluntly for money, but there really isn’t much I wont do for these dogs, including swallowing my own pride and asking for help. Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you would like to donate, we have set up a gofundme account here: https://www.gofundme.com/RescueTruths
Donations of $50 or more will receive a Rescue Truths custom pen & notepad set showing your love and support or our dogs. (Limited supply)
